When School Districts are Customer-Focused Everyone Wins!
With my background working at Walt Disney World, I came away impacted by their incredible focus on customer service. It’s called “the happiest place on earth” for a reason. And my goal has been to use that same philosophy wherever I work and with every one of my clients.
That means creating school cafeterias that attract our students and keep them coming back!
Many of many colleagues are on the same page. Working at the Hillsboro-Deering School District, Food Service Director Amanda A. Venezia, SNS focuses on her customers every day in ways that really make a difference. Recently she shared some highlights from her district that has resulted in a profitable sales increase. Amanda says they:
*Focus on attractive and kid friendly main items while introducing a variety of fruits, vegetables and exotic grains (adding polenta, for example).
*Provide whole-wheat dessert options made from scratch (i.e. cinnamon rolls, apple crisp, brownies)
*Introduced specialty salad options at middle and high schools that are “flying off the shelf!”
*Consistently focus on increasing customer service. Amanda and her team thank students by name when they come up on the POS. She always reminds her staff, “You could be the only smile that child gets today.”
What can you do to bring more attention to your customers in your school district? That should be a conversation starter at every meeting. The truth is, when you come from that expectation, you’re rewarded with greater loyalty and support, more sales, new sales opportunities and happier students overall.
